If you have been on YouTube anywhere in the last 10 years, you would know one of these names: KSI, Logan Paul, Jidion, George Janko, Impaulsive. These names have built platforms with millions of followers – collectively around 100 million people watch them.
Now, most of these names are famous because of their entertainment through podcasts, pranks, jokes, sport, video games and comedy. Very big and popular, yet the content is not God-fearing at all. Through temptation of worldly sin is how they have amassed these millions of followers. Money and fame are centre of attention. Over the last year things have started to change. All of them have been in dark places in their lives, some turned to therapists and others turned to Christ, as He is the way of Life and Truth. Christ came into their lives – just like he came into this world – to bring salvation and freedom.
George Janko and Jidion turned to Christ but received backlash from friends like Logan Paul and KSI. In the Impaulsive podcast Logan said the following to George: “You should go and see a therapist – Jesus is not doing it for you.” Supposedly being George’s best friend, it is not something very friendly to say. The same Logan said to Jidion on his podcast: “God only gave you subscribers, was it not yourself who did it?”
George left the Impaulsive show and started his own podcast, where He can speak openly about God without being censored. Jidion posted on his own channel (8 million subscribers) a video testifying about Christ and sharing the gospel. KSI called it ‘random’. Jidion stated that he won’t be posting on that channel anymore, as he wants to follow Christ and spend his time with Christ. He is starting a channel where he can share the Gospel. He quotes from Mark 8 verse 35-37: “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?” He said, that so many people want his life, yet his life has been empty without Christ. By believing in Christ, he gained his soul, which he hopes many of his followers will do too.
People like KSI and Logan Paul are still chasing after money and fame. While the other two found the most valuable thing there is to find: Christ. By quoting from Matthew 6, Jidion gives a reason for quitting mainstream YouTube: “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Christ is hammering on the door of pop culture; He calls out to everyone to believe in Him. When we look at pop culture as a Christian, you might ask: Where is God? With what is happening right now, it is important to see Christ working through the Holy Spirit in the hearts of these men. He uses anyone He wants to spread His message. We should therefor celebrate the work of Christ in Jidion and George.
While it seems that these rich and famous people may lead the best of lives, it is still empty without Christ. We shouldn’t be chasing after fame and wealth but look towards Christ. He is the Alpha and Omega – the beginning and the end of all things. Christ died on the cross for our sins and it has set us free. We have been bought by His precious blood. Thanks to His work we are clean and without sin before God. By His blood our heavenly Father sees us as His own children – saved from eternal death. Through Christ we may live forever and ever to the glory of God.
